Google Analytics


Google Analytics is a web analytics service offered by Google to tracks and reports website traffic. Google launched the service in November 2005. Google Analytics is now the most widely used web analytics service on the Internet. Google Analytics analysis can also identify where visitors came, How long they stayed and also their geographical position.

Visits 

Using the google analytics  we can identify the visitor on the websites and blogs.
  • Visits represent the number of times the website was visited, without regard to repeat visitors.  
  • Page views represent the total number of pages that visitors looked at on our site.  
  • Visitors represent the number of actual people that visited our site.

 These  visits can classified as
  • Direct visit / Natural visit
  • Referral visit
  • Social media visit
  • Organic visit 

Direct visit

Visitors who visited the site by typing the URL directly into their browser. 'Direct' can also refer to the visitors who clicked on the links from their bookmarks / favorites, links within emails, or links from documents.

Referral visit

Visitors referred by links on other websites. 

Social media visit 

The social media vistit occure from twitter, facebook.

Organic visit 

Visitors referred by an unpaid search engine listing, e.g. a Google.com search.

Get Started With Google Analytics

To install google analytics, first we need the  google analytics account. If you have a google account, then we can set up google analytics with that google account. The account Set up  can be done in the following steps.
  •   Login to your google analytics through  google.com/analytics. 
  •  Click Sign In on right side of the window. 
  •  Click Analytics button and you will redirect to the following page.

  • Click Sign Up button and it will redirect to the following page which shows the information of our website.

  • Select the website tracking ID, it will be default. And setting up the account by adding account name. 
  • Setting up the property by adding the website name or blog name. 
  • Add the website or blog URL in the next text box with https:// certificate for the security of sites.
  • Select the Industry category as per the website's requirement. For a blog we can add reference or other option. 
  • Choose the Reporting Time zone as per the working country. Here we can choose India as per our choice.   
  • After setting up the account click the Get Tracking ID button. 
  • You will get a google Analytics terms and conditions, which you have to agree by click I Accept.

  •  Then copy the Tracking ID 
  • Go to our blogger. 
  • Take settings > Other and paste Id on google analytics text box. 
  •  Click save settings and go back to analytics page.
  •  Copy the tracking code. Because we have to install this on every pages of website to know the website status. 
  • Go to blogger. Select Theme > Edit HTML. Paste code inside the head section (before </head>). 
  •  Click Save Theme. 
  • Now Analytics tracking code is installed. 
  • Then go to Google analytics. Click on All Website Data on the top left hand side and choose website data. 
  •  Next step is to view the google analytics data. For this go to google analytics page and click Real time > Overview. Then we can get the real time tracking overview of our website or blog.

As follow the tracking procedures, we get the current position of websites like number of visits, devices used for visit, time of visit etc

Google Webmaster Tools and Verification Techniques

Google Webmaster Tools

The Google Webmaster Tool now termed as Google Search Console, It’s a platform for Google to advice webmasters for optimizing their websites  and also allows webmasters to check indexing status and optimize visibility of their websites and it is a free tool or service by Google to the webmasters.

Other important advantage of using this tool is, It helps you to identify the issues with our website and  helps  to know spam issues in the websites.

Verification using webmaster tool

  • Create a blog in your blogger.com account
  • Login to your Webmaster tools or search console.

  • Copy the URL of  blog with .com extension. ( If showing the country specific extension(.in), remove it and type with .com and give” /ncr “ (eg: http://shafasksseo.blogspot.com/ncr).Then Press Enter key  and copy the blog URL with .com extension.
  • Go back to webmaster tools and paste the URL in the text box provided in the home page with “Add a Property” button.
  • Click  ”Add a Property” button.
  • You will be redirected to a page with various verification methods. For blog, select the “HTML tag” verification method and copy the “Meta tag” data given in the text box. (eg: <meta name=”google-site-verification” content=”Hbp…..” />
  • Go back to Blogger Dashboard and click on, Theme and Edit Html. This will allow you to edit the html of your blog template.
  • Find the <head> section in your template’s html code and paste the copied “meta tag” data inside this head section code. Click on “Save theme” button.
  • Go to “Search Console” and press “Verify” button.
  • Now you will get a green tick with message, saying “ Congratulations, You have successfully verified your ownership of http:// yourblogname.blogspot.com.

 

Fetch As Google And Submit To Index

  • After clicking the continue from the verification message, the page will redirect to the blog dashboard.

  • On the left side of the screen, we can see the "Crawl" option. Click on it and choose "Fetch as Google" option.
  • The page will redirect to the following screen

  • If you need to fetch entire blog, then leave the text box blank. Otherwise enter the URL of the page you need to indexed.
  • Click the "Fetch" button.
  • After  indexing has finished, there will be a "Request Indexing" button on the screen.
  • You will be given the options of "Crawl Only This URL" ( fetching/submitting one specific page) and "Crawl This URL and its Direct Links" (index the blog and its links).
  • Select as per the need and click Go.
  • Wait for the indexing to complete and you are done.

Crawl Errors

Crawl errors is one of the most popular features in Webmaster Tools. Google consider it as an important factor because the  crawl error is mostly effect on SEO work of the websites. So we want to remove the crawl errors. 404 Page error which is one of the exam of crawl error.

The crawl errors have mainly two section,
  • Site error
  • URL error
Site error :  
The site error which shows  the main issues of the past 90 days overview of our website, Prevented by the Googlebots.

URL errors:
The URL errors is occur in the website due to url issues such as broken links, page not found issues.

By solving these crawl errors the website performance can improved and seo work is also progress,
One of the crawl error is 404 error page. When the google bots try to crawl the page, If the page is not found they bots report it as a crawl error. These issues can permanently remove using redirection technique.

Redirection 
The redirection which is one of the important technique in which changing the old url to new url.Through the redirection process the errors can be avoid. There are two types of redirection technique, Permanent redirection 301 and Temporary redirection 202. 

Permanent redirection 301
The permanent redirection is one of the technique in which redirecting the one page to other page permanently. By Permanent redirection all the page value is move form  old url to new url.

Sample code for 301 redirection:
  redirect 301 /old-url/ new url 

Temporary redirection 302 
The temporary redirection s one of the redirection technique which redirect one page to other page temporarly.
Sample code for 302 redirection:
 redirect 302 /old-url/ new url  


Search Analytics
From the search analytics we can identify the number of click, Impression, CTR, Positions etc. So the Search Analytics is one of the important interface to analyze our website progress.

 
 From the Search analytics we can also identify the Queries , Country, Pages, Devices, Search type and dates.

Queries : The queries which gives the entire focusing keyword used in the website and their clicks.


Countries: The country which specify from the country which the click, visits coming.


  
Devices: Specifies the form the device through which the visits and clicks occur.
